How long have you been working at Hotel Jakarta?

I started my adventure here as an intern in November 2021, and I’ve been officially employed since April 2022.

 

What aspect of your work at Hotel Jakarta do you enjoy the most and why?

I really enjoy the interaction with guests. Every encounter brings new experiences and learning opportunities. No day is the same in this bustling environment, making the work dynamic and challenging. Plus, working in such a large and diverse team is fantastic!

 

How would you describe the atmosphere at Hotel Jakarta in three words?

Friendly, open & energetic!

 

What hidden gem in Amsterdam would you recommend guests visit?

A romantic canal cruise on a charming salon boat is a unique experience you must try! And don’t forget to explore the Jordaan for a taste of authentic Amsterdam.

 

What is your favorite dish at Café Jakarta?

My absolute favorite is the tuna tartare. Definitely a must-try!

 

If you could travel to any Indonesian island, which one would you choose?

Lombok was high on my list during my Bali trip, but I didn’t get the chance to visit. So, I’m really looking forward to exploring that beautiful island!

Sara Li – Westers Bakery

How long have you been working at Bakkerij Westers in Hotel Jakarta?

I have been working at Bakkerij Westers for 1.5 years now!

 

What aspect of your work do you enjoy the most and why?

The best part of my job at Bakkerij Westers is the social aspect; I love chatting with the locals. I also enjoy making the guests’ experience special. And making our delicious sandwiches? That’s really my thing!

 

What would you recommend to someone visiting Bakkerij Westers for the first time?

I would definitely recommend our bread. It’s fresh and delicious, and once you’ve tried it, you won’t want anything else! Also, try our monthly pastries. Each month, our pastry department creates new delights that you must taste!

 

What is your favorite sandwich at the bakery?

My favorite sandwich is the “Ikan Bali” from the new menu. But I also love our tuna melt toastie and the delicious blondies. It’s hard to choose because everything is just so good!

 

What is your favorite order to make for guests?

In the summer, I love making refreshing iced coffee for our guests. In the winter, my favorite is a luxurious hot chocolate. Both drinks are even better when served with a delicious blondie!

Rendy – Chef

How long have you been working as a chef at Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam?

I started as a sous-chef when the hotel opened. After a few years, I was promoted to head chef, a role I proudly fulfill!

 

Can you tell us about where you’re from and what you did before?

Of course! I was born in Bandung on Java. After finishing hotel school in Bandung, I moved to the Netherlands. I worked at Restaurant het Bosch and Restaurant Blaauw. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive knowledge of Eastern products, culture, and food trends in Indonesia.

 

What do you enjoy most about working in the kitchen at Hotel Jakarta?

I love working with young people from different cultures and embracing the hotel’s concept. It’s always inspiring to see how we can create a unique culinary experience together.

 

What makes the dining experience at Café Jakarta unique to you?

The dining experience at Café Jakarta is unique because of the green surroundings and our motto “Two Worlds Connected.” The ambiance is very special and contributes to an unforgettable culinary experience.

 

How would you describe the atmosphere in your kitchen team?

In the kitchen, it’s hard work, but within our team, it’s always cheerful and fun! It’s really a place where everyone feels at ease and works passionately on the dishes.

 

What dish at Café Jakarta would you recommend to guests?

In April, we’re launching a new menu, and I have a few dishes to recommend! For fish lovers, the Hamachi is a must-try. For meat lovers, the Kambing Rembiga is highly recommended, and for vegetarians, the Pepes Jamur is a delicious taste explosion. These dishes truly embody the “Two Worlds Connected” experience that Café Jakarta is known for!

Michelle – Wellcome Wellness

How long have you been working at Wellcome Wellness in Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam?

I started a few months ago as an intern, and I’ve been officially employed for about 5 months now.

 

How would you describe the atmosphere at Wellcome Wellness in three words?

Relaxing, friendly visitors, and welcoming!

 

What do you enjoy most about working at Wellcome Wellness?

The best part of my job is definitely the interaction with clients. I love having pleasant conversations and getting to know the hotel guests and members better. It’s special to see how we form a community of wellness enthusiasts here.

 

What is your favorite Comfort Zone product?

My favorite Comfort Zone product is definitely the Hydramemory Cream. It’s a fantastic product because it hydrates the skin without feeling heavy. It suits all skin types and gives you a beautiful glow.

 

Which massage would you recommend to everyone?

For ultimate relaxation, I highly recommend the Jakarta Special Massage! It’s a unique experience you can only get here at Wellcome Wellness in Hotel Jakarta.

Sacha – Café Jakarta

How long have you been working at Café Jakarta in Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam?

I can hardly believe how quickly time has passed, but I’ve been working here for almost 2 years!

 

What do you enjoy most about working at Café Jakarta and why?

Absolutely the people! I mean the wonderful guests who come here and the fantastic team I work with. The personal interaction with guests really energizes me, and nothing beats seeing a smile on their faces when they leave satisfied. On the work floor, I’ve built great relationships with my colleagues; it feels like one big family!

 

If you had to choose one dish from the Café Jakarta menu to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That’s an easy one: Nasi Goreng, of course! But with extra chicken!

 

How would you describe the atmosphere in your team at Café Jakarta?

Within our team, the atmosphere is very pleasant. I feel very comfortable and know that if I need help, everyone is there for me! We work well together, and I love that we have a super diverse team, which makes the job even more fun!

 

What has been your most enjoyable experience while working at Café Jakarta?

There have been so many great moments, but working during events is one of the coolest experiences I’ve had here! These are unique experiences that bring a lot of variety to my work. I also love hearing when guests have had a good experience and sharing that with me; it makes me very happy and proud!

Hendri – Head Bartender Café Jakarta

How long have you been working at Café Jakarta in Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam?

Since the opening, and I must say, it has been a great experience to be part of this fantastic team since day one!

 

What do you enjoy most about working behind the bar at Café Jakarta and why?

The best part of my job is definitely making cocktails! I really enjoy the creativity involved and the interaction with our wonderful guests. Every day brings new encounters and stories, and it’s always fun to see how people enjoy what I make for them.

 

What is your favorite drink to make?

My favorite drink to make is the “Jakarta Today.” It’s a perfect mix of flavors and truly showcases what Café Jakarta has to offer.

 

If you were a drink, what would you be and why?

I would be whiskey. Whiskey has a strong flavor and is a drink you really have to learn to appreciate. Just like whiskey, my colleagues say you have to get to know me to see my true character. They often say, “You love it, or you hate it.”

 

Which cocktail on the menu would you recommend to someone visiting Café Jakarta for the first time and why?

For a first visit, I would definitely recommend my favorite: the “Jakarta Today.” For those who prefer a non-alcoholic drink, I would suggest the “Berastagi” mocktail, which is delicious and refreshing. Additionally, our signature “Ice Tea Jakarta” is perfect for everyone!

How long have you been working at Hotel Jakarta?

I have been working at Hotel Jakarta since September 2022!

 

What aspect of your work at Hotel Jakarta do you enjoy the most and why?

The best part of my job is definitely working with people. I love making guests happy and providing them with an unforgettable experience. Every day is different, keeping it fun and challenging. Additionally, I work in a beautiful hotel with a great, motivated team, which makes it even more enjoyable.

 

How would you describe the atmosphere at Hotel Jakarta in three words?

Welcoming, green, and cozy!

 

What hidden gem in Amsterdam would you recommend guests visit?

Prinseneiland is a true hidden gem. It’s a beautiful, quiet place with picturesque canals and historic warehouses. But I prefer giving personal recommendations based on their preferences and interests.

 

What is your favorite dish at Café Jakarta?

My favorite is definitely the shrimp noodles! It’s always a great choice and highly recommended for anyone dining here.

Tia – Housekeeping

How long have you been working at Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam?

I have been working at Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam for 6 years now. I was even here before we officially opened! It’s amazing to see how the hotel has developed and to have been part of this team from the very beginning.

 

What do you enjoy most about working in Housekeeping at Hotel Jakarta and why?

The best part of my job is ensuring the cleanliness of the hotel. I truly enjoy every aspect of the cleaning process, and we do it with the same care as if we were cleaning our own homes! Additionally, I love interacting with guests and working with my wonderful colleagues. And let’s be honest, Hotel Jakarta is just a beautiful place to work!

 

How would you describe the atmosphere in your Housekeeping team?

The atmosphere in our team is great. We are professional, work well together, and are always flexible!

 

Do you have a secret cleaning tip you’d like to share?

I don’t really have secret tips, but I can say that attention to detail is really important. It’s the little things that make a big difference!

 

What makes your workday complete?

My workday is complete when all tasks are finished on time and everyone has put in their full effort. It gives a great sense of satisfaction when we have everything perfectly arranged together!
